Siar Beach at low tide

Siar Beach is a perfect golden sandy beach about 10km north of Lundu in western Sarawak.

It is quite a small beach, around 500 metres in length but its width is remarkable for its enormous variation between high and low tides. At low tide the sea recedes by at least 500 metres so you have to walk a long way before you reach the sea and, even then, the sea floor slopes very gently so you have to wade a lot further before the sea reaches your knees.

The calm waves make it safe for bathing (though it can get rough during the monsoon season) and the water is clear and clean. Another plus side is that when the sea recedes the beach is strewn with lots of shells, tiny sand crabs, hermit crabs, shellfish etc..

Accommodation at Siar Beach

There are a few resorts along this beach which make public access to the beach difficult if you are not staying in one the resorts.

I stayed at the Rafflesia Resort which was not bad. The rooms have their own little courtyard each with an outdoor spa bath and they are situated around a nice pool and garden area overlooking the beach. It's a good concept although the rooms could do with a bit of refurbishment. We had a good dinner in their Cataleya Seaview Seafood Restaurant.

How To Get to Siar Beach

Siar Beach is roughly 100 km from Kuching Waterfront and the drive takes around 1 hour 40 minutes.
