Dogs in Malaysia

Malays are generally not fond of keeping dogs. An old belief is that they are unlucky because the dog “longs for the death of his master, an event which will involve the slaying of animals at the funeral feast, when the bones will fall to the dogs.” Also it is commonly believed that the saliva of a dog is unclean and that if it licks your hand you need to wash your hands seven times.
