
According to the Malaysian Quality of Life Index, there were 31,624 divorces recorded in 2009, a 20% increase on 2008. By 2012 this number had increased to 56,760.
Under the Marriage & Divorce Act 1976, divorces are not normally permitted for couples who have been married for less than two years.
