Deepavali, the Hindu festival of lights, also spelt Diwali, is celebrated exuberantly by Malaysia’s Indian community in October or November each year. Festivities include visits to the temple, the lighting and display of oil lamps, fireworks and consumption of vast quantities of food at open houses to which fellow Malaysians of other races will be invited.
