In 2010 there was one dentist for every 7,437 people in the country (in USA the ratio was about 1:1670). If the average dental appointment lasts 20 minutes and a dentist works 12 hours per day for 5 days a week it would take about 9 months for the dentist to see every patient once. If every patient visited the dentist as often as recommended (twice a year) the dentists would not be able to cope.
The Government aims to reduce the dentist-patient ratio to 1:3,000 by 2018.
