Looking for a nice place to walk, exercise or take pre-wedding photos in the middle of Kuching? MBKS Park is a very attractively landscaped garden and recreational complex surrounding the MBKS Building and is popular with both locals and tourists.

MBKS stand for Majlis Bandaraya Kuching Selatan or Kuching South City Hall. It is also known as DBKS (Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Selatan). The City Hall is housed in a distinctive pointed building with a blue roof, described by a friend as the blue lemon squeezer! On the ground floor of the building is a Mini-Museum/Photo Gallery which is also worth visiting if you are interested in the history of Kuching City.
MBKS Park is divided up into different zones.

This traditional gateway adorned with white bougainvillea marks the entrance to the Palmarium zone containing various palm species.

There are a number of gazebos dotted around the park where you can take cover from the sun and rain.

Ausome Park (interesting spelling) is a kiddies' play area.

There are two ponds in the park, the smaller of which has lotus flowers and water lilies. Both ponds have fish.

The Hokkien Garden features six traditionally-styled Chinese pavilions and a set of 12 Chinese Zodiac animal sculptures amid manicured gardens.

The small Show Garden section is interesting with lush planting, indigenous design structures, some rafflesia plants (fake unfortunately) and plenty of cat statues. It could do with a bit of tidying up.

The main flower-lined street leading up to the MBKS building is called Canna Lily Boulevard and is planted with colourful cannas and other plants.

The Kuching Natural Farmers' Market is held in the MBKS covered car park area on the first and third Saturdays of the month from 7:30 - 11am. A good place to buy pesticide-free fruits and vegetables, plants, flowers, goats' milk, honey, snacks and more.
The MBKS swimming pool was closed in March 2024 and the site is being redeveloped into a family water fun park and a Centre of UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy according to the billboard outside.
There is a popular hawker style food centre including Ah Yeo Ice Kacang and Ah Cheng Curry Rice.
Other facilities here include:

Construction of a major residential and commercial development is underway on the edge of the park. PARQ Residence describes itself as Kuching's first 33 storey residential apartment block in a prime city area. The views overlooking the park and its convenient location will no doubt be among the main selling points for this development.
Open daily from 6am to 10pm.
Entrance is completely FREE.
